Here at Rawr we have the delight of making regular deliveries to the Sunray Cafe in Cambridge, and this little eaterie well deserves a mention.
Opened just a couple of weeks ago on 1st March 2010, Sunray Cafe is run by Naomi Jackson – an ex-CB1 employee with some marvellous ideals. Using local produce wherever possible, she serves hot drinks and food in the colourful, homely place that is her cafe. So much thought has gone into the layout of the cosy space: all of the walls are brightly coloured, with one whole wall being a massive piece of talented graffiti artwork. There are large tables for groups of friends to share tapas, board games, books, computers, things for the kids to do, cool music… Soon to be one of the trendiest places to grab a drink in Cambridge!
You can find Sunray Cafe at the back of the Grafton Centre, off Napier Street – just look for the colourful sandwich board directing you into the Cobble Yard courtyard. It’s open Monday-Saturday, 8am – 7pm. Check out their website for contact details.
Urban Larder opened just a short time ago on Halloween, and already stocks a wide and impressive range of local wholefoods and delicacies (including, from today, Rawr chocolate!). Unique in its incredibly cute location – a small shop surrounded by greenery and antiques in Hope Yard, with pink cake wallpaper – it’s well worth a visit. Lots of veggie and vegan treats on offer, and some gorgeous fresh fruit.
As a former Mill Road resident I used to love going to the Black Cat Cafe for a fruit salad and a herbal tea on a Sunday morning.
It really is one of the best, independent cafes Cambridge has to offer, and we’re delighted to have made our first Rawr Chocolate delivery there today. Pop in next time you’re doing a spot of non-high street shopping on Mill Road.
When we first received an email from a customer offering to doodle all over our packaging we were a little sceptical but thought, hey, who knows.. “maybe she’s good.” Well good was definitely an understatement!
Nancy's first doodles
We were so impressed with the talented Ely artist, Nancy Voak’s, artwork that we asked her to do designs for all of our flavours. She soon came back to us with some amazing illustrations for each of our eight main bars. Hand drawn on paper, we thought.. this is really cool but it needs some colour! Thankfully we have some in-house skills too, so we set off meticulously filling in the colours (we felt like kids with a colouring book.. well, not quite!).
Nancy’s imaginative designs have been a hit with everyone we’ve talked to and I especially love her latest one, Christmas. Here they all are in their full glory:
Powell & Bull, Cambridge
Could Rawr be the first raw chocolate to be sold in a jewellery shop?! Who knows, but it’s certainly a first for us!
Cambridge residents and visitors can now buy a Rawr bar to go with their new bling at Powell & Bull on Magdalene Street.
Take a look at our friend Paul’s gorgeous handmade jewellery for an idea of what you could be wearing while you chomp on our choccie!
Cambridge Farmers Outlet on Lensfield Road was one of the very first shops to stock Rawr when we moved away from the market a year ago. It’s the only shop we stock up personally every week, and as such we feel quite attached to the place – we get to see what’s selling well and can trial new products and flavours. This week we finally moved in all of our display boxes – a box of small and large Rawr bars for each of our 8 flavours, plus bowls of Nut Power – that’s 200 choccie bars in all!
I was also really pleased to see that we’re not the only raw food there anymore – in addition to the fab fruit and veg selection you can also now buy packets of raw buckwheat, oats, sprouting mixes and even 20p sprouting bags! Fantastic!
During the last week Rawr chocolate has made its way into two more Cambridge shops: Origin8 and Coton Orchard Farm Shop.
Origin8 is a stylish, deli-cafe in the centre of Cambridge, which, like Rawr, started one winter on Cambridge market. We’re proud to be one of the many local products sold there.
Coton Orchard Farm Shop is attached to a wonderful garden centre and sells a variety of wholefoods and fresh fruit and veg (we couldn’t help stocking up when dropping off our order!). Rawr is their only raw chocolate to be stocked, as well as their only dairy-free.
