Urban Larder now on Mill Road
Oct 26th, 2010 by Kendra

Urban Larder's Polly

Rawr stockist Urban Larder has moved, almost a year after it first opened. The independently run shop, selling all sorts of local products and kitsch gifts, has moved to a more prominent position on Mill Road, Cambridge (Romsey side of the bridge). Polly’s got lots more space for lots more goodies, and we’re looking forward to picking up some yummy bits every time we drop off some more chocolate!

Urban Larder’s new address:

No.9 The Broadway, Mill Road, Cambridge, CB1 3NA

(A few doors along from the Black Cat Cafe)

Four handmade raw chocolate bars gift-wrapped in orange organza ribbon with a special Halloween label. Featuring our finest flavours: dark Purity, goji berry and vanilla Passion, mint After Dinner and orange Zest.

A passion for Passion: goji berry & vanilla bar reviewed!
Jul 1st, 2010 by Kendra
Passion reviewed by Chocolate Reviews

Passion reviewed by Chocolate Reviews

Rawr Passion is one of my personal favourites in our raw chocolate bar range. Although I’m not a huge fan of goji berries by themselves, combined with our chocolate and Madagascan vanilla the taste is just simply divine – chewy and fruity and chocolatey all in one go. And with all those whole gojis on top, it’s one of our most pretty and eye-catching bars.

So I was delighted when I saw this review for Rawr Passion on the Chocolate Reviews website. You can read the whole thing here, or have a skim of some of the things the lovely Lee had to say:

“Under the outer wrapping and inner foil there was a bar of chocolate that was more solid than I thought it’d be. Previously the raw chocolate I’ve reviewed was more Wispa-like in texture. This had a much greater density – which actually made it look and feel more like a “normal” bar of chocolate…Also there was a magnificent shine to it that I don’t previously recall as being present with the other raw bars of chocolate I’ve tried…..In terms of flavour: it’s mild, slightly sweet but with a nice smooth taste that belies its lack of processing. It’s very enjoyable.”

Eanie Greenies Swedish Raw Blog

Eanie Greenie's Swedish Raw Blog

We’ve had lots of requests to review our chocolate recently, but Eanie Greenie’s blog is a first in that it’s Swedish! Although none of us here at Rawr know a word of the language, this blog’s a raw feast for the eyes – just check out some of Cecilia’s gorgeous photos.

Here’s a few snippets of what Eanie Greenie thought of our Rawr Zest chocolate (she thoughtfully added an English translation at the bottom of the page!): “Rawr Zest. I. Love. Love…Rawr Raw Chocolate sailed straight to the top of my favourite raw chocolate bars. Now all I need is for someone in Sweden to start selling these so I can try all the other flavours too.”

And on Pecan Power: “I usually don’t go for chocolate with things like nuts or seeds or berries in them. I like a strong chocolate flavour and am quite happy with just that, so boy am I glad I got to try the Pecan Power! …the pecans are really fresh and soft, with no bitterness whatsoever. The chocolate is soft and sweet and a great match with the pecans.

Thanks Cecilia! :)

Rawr Raw Chocolate Wedding Favours
Apr 5th, 2010 by Kendra

King’s College Chapel in Cambridge has got to be one of the most impressive wedding venues in the country. The most recognisable building in the city, beautiful and austere, with only a few dates each year available for ceremonies.

Our friends’ wedding blessing at the end of March was a truly dream-come-true experience. Ava Maria sung during the ceremony by the groom’s professionally-trained daughter, and music afterwards by the bride’s friend, Sarah Gillespie.

We were asked to provide the wedding favours. After some thought, we came up with 15g squares of coloured-foil-wrapped raw chocolate, in After Dinner mint, orange Zest and dark Purity. Each was printed with a wedding message, and presented in baskets with satin ribbon wrapped handles (green for mint, gold for orange, silver for dark). Guests stuffed them into mouths and handbags by the handful!

If you’d like us to do the same for your wedding or other event, feel free to contact us.

Miss Eco Glams Award for Rawr

Miss Eco Glam's Award for Rawr

Miss Eco Glam is one of the blogs I most regularly follow. Anna’s blog is a goldmine of information for anyone interested in a natural yet glamourous lifestyle, and covers many non-food areas most raw websites never touch. She reviews everything from organic dog food to toothpaste to hotels to make-up, and often blogs more than once daily. Well worth a browse, whether you’re into raw food or not.

So when Miss Eco Glam asked if she could review our chocolate, we were more than happy to send some samples. Like all our other reviewers, she loved the chocolate, but more than that she awarded us Best Raw Confectionery Brand 2010! Here’s why:

Woo wee!! Is this stuff great!!!! Actually its more than great, its pure bliss! And this is why I have given it the Best Raw Confectionery Brand for 2010. I adore it and I don’t think any other raw chocolate will top it. If it does, the company will have to wait till 2011 before I give them an award!

We’re so excited at the rave reviews we’ve been getting for Rawr recently, and it’s lovely to get such great feedback! You can read Miss Eco Glam’s whole review here. Be sure to check out the rest of her blog while you’re at it!

Raw Chocolate Easter Eggs Reviewed

Little Guru

Little Guru

Still undecided about your Easter gifts? Don’t just take our word for it about how good Rawr’s Easter boxes are: we’ve sent off some sample boxes to raw (and non-raw) reviewers to give us their feedback, and the results are in.

1) Victoria Leith, aka Little Guru, runs a website all about the raw and natural lifestyle. Here’s what she had to say about our eggs: These eggs are the real deal – solid chocolate, sugar and dairy-free and so unbelievably sweet (tasting and otherwise) that they would make a very lovely Easter present indeed.

2) Our second review comes from a non-raw source. Lee runs easter-eggs.org.uk and chocolatereviews.co.uk, taking upon himself the difficult task of taste-testing numerous chocolates daily! Luckily for him, in reviewing our eggs he got the opportunity to skip the dairy and refined sugar.

You can read the whole review here, in which Lee has some lovely things to say, including: “There’s [a] great thing about these raw Easter eggs which is that for £7.95 you get four substantial Easter eggs of three different flavours. You’ve got the zest egg, the minty After Dinner and two vanilla Easter eggs which are called “purity”. They’re all pretty damn good too.

3) Our next reviewer…Raw Rob, of Funky Raw. Funky Raw is a great online shop – we used to buy some of our chocolate making goodies from them in the early days! They also publish a magazine for those interested in the raw lifestyle. Here’s what Rob thought:

All three [flavours] were delicious, although the mint was my favourite, with a strong cool and refreshing mint flavour….The dark chocolate ones were great too, with cruncy cacao nibs. They cost £7.95 for a box of four which includes free delivery and you can choose any combination of flavours. The eggs are solid chocolate and weigh 70g each – that’s a lot of chocolate so try not to eat it all at once (unlike me!).”

4) Chocablog is a non-raw website reviewing chocolate of all kinds. Here’s a snippet: “This Rawr chocolate with its solid, firm feel and glossy finish is the closest [raw chocolate] I’ve seen to a mass produced chocolate…
